How much more dangerous, expensive, and involved is it to have to go out 65 miles or a hundred miles in the Gulf and then a mile down to get oil when it's right here on the coast or onshore in various parts of the country where it would be cheaper to get it, and less dangerous. But I don't guess any of you enviro's want to consider that, huh? So I guess this proves it is safer to drill on land... All right, lets get to drilling!!!
I think the reason they drill offshore is that most of the onshore oil in the US have mostly been pumped out. Now they have found some huge natural gas deposits deep under Appalachia, Pennsylvania, and parts of New York. It's called the Marcellus Shale. They've already started drilling for some of that. But even if you drill every last bit of oil under the US it's still only enough to supply us for a couple of years at best. And oil companies just sell it on the world market. Anyway, most of the huge deposits lie elsewhere.
The North shore of Alaska is like a black gold mine and does not require off shore drilling. And don't worry about our oil supply, because we have the largest coal deposits in the world. Did you know that all United States military vehicles are required to be able to use fuel made from coal? Well there are some exceptions like submarines and aircraft carriers that use (please pronounce like W) nuclear power.
Hey speaking of natural gas did you know it burns cleaner than even gasoline? You would think environuts would want us to use that instead and create some jobs here in the good ole US of A... Oh well, gotta go burn some gas and go to work...
Yes we know that natural gas burns cleaner than oil(and coal). And Enviros do want to use it. In fact the new energy bill includes provisions to convert trucks and buses to natural gas. But the long term solution is wind and solar. Clean and limitless.
