Why is it that they are slowly phasing out the civil war in history books? Some people out here in California get it confused with the Spanish American War.That would be like confusing Vietnam and the Gulf War.

One of the biggest problems I see is too many people want to call the Navy Jack the Confederate Flag an they think hate . A shame they don't have clue. I can fly the 1st National and most have no clue. Fly the Bonnie Blue and they think it is from a different state or country.

I find it ironic that when black people or just people in general credit Lincoln for freeign the slaves they just say it out of habbit or because thats what they heard. Lincold had the chance to free the slaves in the North with his "Emancimation Proclimation" but instead he only anounced the slaves in the South to be 'freed', a place where he had absolutly no control over. All the while he anounces the south to be slave free, blacks in the North were still slaves and continued to be subjected to heavy labor without pay. If Lincoln was not a racist he should have freed the slaves in the North first, and freed his own house slaves. His "emancipation proclimation" was nothing more then propaganda against the South and to gain support for his war effort to subject the south to Northern rule. That is one of the factors slavery played in the civil war that people dont talk about.

I think its funny when people who know nothing about the civil war and why it happened, and the people who went to arms over it, these people act like they know everything about it and say it was fought over slavery. The vast majority of people who rose up and took arms for the south did NOT own any slaves. They were fighting for independance from the North. Was slavery a factor? yes but not the cause of the war, an not why it lasted so long. The south was fighting for FREEDOM.

Racist are trying to take the confederate flad - the skinheads and KKK sure are trying. But the Sons of Confederate Veterans are not racist, they are a group dedicated to preservation of history. They fight hard to educate, to denouce slavery and racism, and to help people remember that a nation should never raise an army against itself. Ever place it's constituents in such a place without succor.

I do wonder though, why they just don't start waving the Confederate National Flag. It's so pretty, and is not so negatively associated.

The cofederate flag isn't racist because it's an inanimate object, but the people who wave it probably are. Sorry. The cofederace tried to rip apart the country to preserve slavery. It was a long time ago, though. Forgive and forget?
