I was born in the deep south the son of a white sharecropper. During the Civil War I escaped with two of my best friends, who happened to be of African descent, to the north where we enlisted in the Union army. We were lucky enough to fight in the same regiment, until, because of our leadership skills and knowledge of the South, all three of us were promoted to Generals and assigned our own regiments. We all survived, however I had to have my left leg sawed off because of a gangrene infection due to a shrapnel wound that was later bit by a big ass cottonmouth snake.
